Local Indian History and Lore - Tim Patterson
Pictured here is Tim Patterson dressed in traditional Indian clothing getting ready to present a history of the tribes than lived in New England and especially in New Hampshire.
Tim used a Power Point presentation to indicate the locations of major tribes in the area. He discussed the cultures and traditions of these tribes and the nomadic lives they lived. He discussed the difficulties they faced with the arrival of the white man and how the cultures clashed. Sadly, tribes were eradicated - often by disease like smallpox both accidentally and purposely introduced by these new comers.
Today there are many reminders of these tribes and their language which live on in names of towns like Nashua, Penacook, and Merrimack. Interestingly, Winnepesaukee means "land around great lake" not the lake itself.
Between 50 and 60 interested citizens and friends attended this very interesting presentation and, here, clearly show their approval. Tim also brought make Indian artifacts for display including a huge rack of antlers.
After the presentation, refreshments were served and visitors got to ask Tim questions
